F2A-1 BuNo 1387

This skin depicts the second production F2A-1, BuNo 1387. For publicity purposes, it was exhibited in the depicted markings at the 1939 New York World's Fair. After an engine change at NAS Anacostia, it was dispatched via San Diego to U.S.S. Saratoga where it served with VF-3. Returned to Brewster for remanufacture to F2A-2 standards in November 1940, it was reassigned to VS-201 aboard the CVE U.S.S. Long Island.

F2A-1 VF-3's Section Four

The three F2A-1's of VF-3's Section Four arrived aboard USS Saratoga on December 18, 1939. They served with that squadron until November 1940, when they were returned to Brewster for conversion to F2A-2 standards. After conversion, they were assigned in June 1941 to VS-201 aboard the CVE USS Long Island. After withdrawal of all F2a's from combat service, they were employed as trainers at NAS Miami and other east coast air stations.

RNoAF Mk.IIc

Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIc, Royal Norwegian Air Force.
Delivered to No.22 MU in 1944, was a period at No.1695 Bombing Development Flight, after that placed in stock. The machine originally had serial number LF575, but this was cancelled at the transfer to RNoAF. It was given to RNoAF in 1947 and went to Luftforsvarets Tekniske Skolesenter (LTS) (The Air Defense Technical School Center) in Kjevik. It was only used as instruction material; later it was put aside for a future museum.
However it was damage when the hangar roof collapsed because of large snow quantity in March 1954, and after that it was scrapped.

Information comes from IPMS Limtuben Vol.3 No. 2, from an article about Kjevik Airfields 50 years anniversary written by Bjørn Hafsten.

Special thanks goes to Bjørnar Norås for providing the 3 view images I have used to make this skin.

This is part of a series that will comprise all eighteen SBD-1's of VMB-1 in their colorful prewar livery. They are weathered only slightly because, having spent a little time in Marine aviation long ago, I *know* that these new aircraft would have been well kept!
